Tight At The Top

A headed goal from Michael Ricketts - his first for the Whites was enough to see of a determined Ipswich side. Preston did not perform well but a steely grit saw them through the game.

Ipswich played good football at times and were allowed to pass the ball but with no great effect. Preston always looked dangerous with Nugent playing up front.

Ricketts went off at half time but Dichio held the ball up well as the Preston defence came under pressure. Davidson battled well in midfiled with Sedgewick as Songo'o provided much needed width out wide.

No doubt Lonergan kept Preston in the game early on and he will be much needed as Preston scrap for every point. It is all about points at this stage of the season and Preston now go into a local derby with some confidence knowing the pressure that is on their rivals at the moment.

For once Derby, Birmingham, Sunderland, Cardiff and Southampton all failed to win. West Brom play tomorrow then again in a big game against Birmingham on Sunday. The league table as tonight will probably be much changed by then.
