Too Little Too Late

Preston's fans may ask why the team hasn't performed like they did today over the past 10 or so games and if they had then the play offs would have been a certainty. As it was other results conspired against the Whites and despite a victory over Premirship bound Birmingham Preston finished seventh just outside the play off positions.

How the game only produced one goal I have no idea. Preston hit the woodwork so did the Blues when it seemed harder to miss. Birmingham missed a hatful of chances including a couple of free far post headers from six yards out.

Preston went all out attack and were finaly rewarded when Simon Whaley rounded the keeper late on to tap into the back of the net. He has had a poor second half to the season and next season will be a big test for him with his best buddy David Nugent likely to leave the club in the summer.

Simpson now has a summer to rearrange his squad. The fans who only expected mid-table this season had more than they bargained for but next season the bar will be raised again and Preston will know that it will be even tougher without top goalscorer.

All that is to come but the fans can be proud that the club finished has finished on a high and if they can carry over their home form into 2007/8 then there will be an exciting season ahead.
