It was initimated from the off that the current squad were not good enough even without Westley allowing the squad to impress. In a matter of days new players were brought in with new methods yet the manager still blamed his personnel for the poor run of form that saw Preston finish below mid-table.

Preston's long term plan was always to cut the wage bill and whoever was in charge was going to be forced into making changes this summer to get the last of the big earners off the books.

It is expected that at least a dozen of the players out of contract will leave the club. The manager has stated that he believes that only ten of the current squad will be here next season meaning a big turnover of players of the next few months.

Last week Preston announced that only Fairhurst and Clark were to be offered full time contracts from the 2nd year yout team. The professionals are to sit down in the next couple of days with Westley to learn their future before the retained list is sent out at the end of the week.

Peter Risdale has said that the wheels have been put in motion to bring in new blood but first it will be a case of reducing the current squad with the future's of many players still unkown.
