Williams will deputise at left back as Davidson is still recovering from injury although he is nearing a return to the first team. Eddie Nolan is looking like being squeezed out of the picture but Williams is actually a left footer and will give North End some balance.
The left back goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's game at Derby and will wear the number 20 shirt.
