Windy Affair Ends Goalless

Both sides started the game looking to gain ground on leaders Newcastle but both looked as far away from a top Championship side as you can imagine.

Preston's best chances came from set pieces with Jones heading wide and int he second half a flick on header just going past the far post - the WEst Brom keeper was not troubled.

West Brom were equally ineffective. Lonergan had three shots to save - one dribbled towards him, one straight at him which he made ahash of and turned onto the post and int he second half he tipped one over the bar.

The only other chance came to West Brom with a poor shot that went wide thanks to the striker cutting across the ball. The game only had two other events. Both involved a soft referee with Jones and Mawene pulled down in the area in the first half - nothing given. In the second half Collins played apoor back pass and in recovering appeared to foul the West Brom forward - nothing given.

Both sides will blame numerous factors including a howling wind blowing debris on the pitch and also the fact that this was the last of a number of games packed into a short space of time for both clubs before the international break. Both sides will have to improve if they want to mainatin a challenge.
