Old Boys 2008/2009 Season Round-Up Part 2

Last updated : 23 May 2009 By Paul Neat

Claude Davis | Derby County & Crystal Palace

Part two kicks off with Jamaican international Claude Davis. With no fewer than three changes in manager at Pride Park during the former Blades tenure, Claude Davis is another former Lilywhite who has seen his first-team appearances restricted. New gaffer Nigel Clough deemed Davis not to be in his first team plans so allowed him to join Neil Warnock's Crystal Palace on loan . Despite moving to Selhurst Park for first-team football, Davis has also endured a stop start campaign. With wholesale changes at Derby County afoot, where Davis will end up for the 2009/2010 campaign remains to be seen.

Rob Kozluk | Barnsley

The former Sheffield United full-back, who spent a very short loan spell at Deepdale, helped Barnsley to avoid relegation to League One after being a regular fixture in Simon Davey's side. Kozluk's 2008/2009 campaign has proved to be his most successful season in terms of first-team appearances since his days with the Blades. The Tykes secured their Championship status on the final day with a 2-1 win over Plymouth at Home Park.

Jay McEveley | Derby County & Preston North End & Charlton Athletic

North End's first loan signing of the season has spent two spells out on loan during the 2008/2009 campaign. After spending a month's loan at Deepdale covering for the injured Callum Davidson, the former Blackburn full-back was farmed out to relegation threatened Charlton Athletic in a bit to ease their ever increasing defensive worries. Much like with his defensive colleague Claude Davis, McEveley's Derby County future is very much in doubt since the arrival of Nigel Clough. Charlton were relegated to League One whilst his parent club Derby secured a mid-table finish.

Andy Gray | Charlton Athletic

Gray and the Addicks endured a disastrous season in the Championship this year having finished rock bottom and destined to at least a season in English football's third tier. Gray was brought in by former manager Alan Pardew from Preston's bitter rivals Burnley but was unable to fire the South London club out of trouble.

Games: 21 (5) Goals: 7 Yellow Cards: 1 Red Cards: 0

Tamas Priskin | Watford

Having been forced to comply with the Hornets' financial restraints, then manager Aidy Boothroyd had to let several key first-team members leave Vicarage Road. Accordingly, Priskin handed the number 9 shirt and has seen the Hungarian record his best ever goal return whilst being a key part of the Watford side. The Hornets finished in a comfortable mid-table place despite at one point it looking like the might have been dragged into a relegation dog fight.

Brian Stock | Doncaster Rovers

Rovers ' first season back in the second tier of English football ended in a near-comfortable mid-table finish and therefore can be deemed a success. Brian Stock, much like in their promotion winning season, has been instrumental for Sean O'Driscoll's side wading in with a handful of key goals and man-of-the-match performances. As a result, Stock has caught the attention of a number of other Championship clubs and, if rumours are to be true, newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Brett Ormerod | Oldham Athletic & Blackpool

After failing to force his way into Alan Irvine's first team plans, nor being able to make a solitary appearance at North End this season, Ormerod was sent out on loan to Oldham Atheltic in search of first-team football. At Boundary Park, Ormerod spent just over a month on loan during a season where the Latics fell short in their hunt for a play-off place.

Ormerod then returned to North End before returning to Blackpool in January 2009 on a free transfer. It was back at Bloomfield Road where he netted his only goals of the season and helped see the Seasiders secure Championship football for at least another season.

Joe Anyinsah | Carlisle & Brighton & Hove Albion

Having failed in his attempts to break into the Preston first team, Anyinsah was initially sent out on loan to Brighton & Hove Albion. During his three-month spell at the Withdean Stadium, the former Bristol City winger became an instant hit with the Albion faithful due to his hard work and endeavour. At the dawn of 2008, when Anyinsah left the Seagulls, Brighton were lying in 19th place and clear of the relegation zone. Subsequently, Brighton avoided relegation to League Two.

Anyinsah returned to Deepdale in January and had his contract terminated by mutual consent. Accordingly, the winger secured a move to Cumbrian outfit Carlisle United where he signed an 18-month contract. Carlisle, like Brighton, managed to avoid relegation to English football's fourth tier. United had to wait until the final day to seal their fate after a 2-0 win at home to play-off finalists Millwall.
