In a game of few chances, Preston came away with a point from their home match with Sheffield United in front of the Sky tv cameras.

In a closely fought contest the visitors were restricted to shots from outside the box. United made it difficult for North End to get the ball down and play some football.

Preston's best chance came with five minutes to go when Tye mears found himself free in the box with only the keeper to beat. However, the youngster who had a rare start blasted over with his left foot.

Billy Davis made changes to the side going with Dichio and Nugent up front to combat the physical aspect of the visitors side. Mawene also kept his spot at the back with Mears starting the game on the left wing with Nowland and Jones in midfield.

Preston now go into the festive period on an unbeaten run stretching 13 games but will be looking to take as many points as possible to push up the table over the next four games.
