Another Stalemate

Preston finished Boxing Day with the second best defensive record in the division and only Reading have lost fewer games in the league. However, despite an unbeaten run of 14 games billy Davies knows that these statistics are of little value as Preston lie in ninth place, two points outside the play off positions.

Preston who have drawn more games than any other team in the division could not break down Sheffield Wednesday in front of Deepdale's biggest crowd of the season with just under 19,000 in attendance.

Nugent had the best two Preston chances both times being denied by the in form Nicky weaver in the visitors goal. Wednesday who had lost their last four matches never really threatened Nash's goal but it is the lack of goals that will be concerning manager Davies.

It is certain that when the transfer market re-opens that Preston will be adding a striker to their squad to boost the side with some much needed fire power in a push for the top six. Names being linked with the club are matt Fryatt from Walsall with a possible cash and swap deal with Erik Skora to the Saddlers. Iwen Redan from Dutch side Willem II has also been linked with the club along with United youngster Guisseppi Rossi joining Dave Jones on loan until the end of the season.

Preston now travel down to the south west in preperation for a tricky tie at Plymouth who came away with a Boxing Day win. No new injuries meant that Davies has the same set of players to choose from.
