Disarray At Deepdale

Paul Simpson altered the startin line up by changing the front two. Agyemang and Carroll started up fromt in place of Mellor and Ormerod. The end result was just the same with the front to doing nothing to challenge the Colchester goal nor in fairness was anything ever created for them.

Preston passed the ball around but more often than not looked for the big targetman in Carroll. He won his fair share of headers but due to a fussy referee his height counted against him as numerous fouls wee given against the frontman.

After Preston had 30 minutes of possession without penetration Colchester actually ventured forward believeing there was actually little to fear at Deepdale. They were right as they won a free kick on 41 minutes which was crossed into the box for Kevin Lisbie to rise high and head Colchester into the lead before half time.

Preston never looked like getting back to level terms. early in the second half Colchester were out of sight as a cross came in and a raised hand touched the ball. It was hards to see the culprit - either Mawene or Alexander and a penalty was given. The old man of football Teddy Sheringham converted and Preston were staring a second defeat in the league.

Another free kick around 25 yards out was given away and Yeates converted to give Colchester a resounding victory. Preston were at best poor. they lacked emphasis and motivation - something which comes from the manager. Simpson when firts arriving added he wanted to make Preston an attacking side compared to that of his predecessor. Over the dross that was served up today I would prefer the dull football of days gone by than the lack of effort put out today by the men in White.

Preston now go into another game away at Coventry on a poor run and ultimately a defeat next week could signal more discontentment amongts the dwindling Preston support.
