Gutting Start for the Whites

Every PNE fan that saw the game on Saturday must have come away disappointed that their team didn’t get a least a point against West Ham. North End gave them a shock in the first half with dominance and passing that’s the best I’ve seen them display for a long time.

Eddie Lewis scored after 90 minutes for the Whites after Alexander put in a wonderful cross for him. From what I saw on Saturday, Lewis looked razor sharp and looks like he’s going to have a good season ahead of him.

Defoe was very threatening; he gave Jackson in particular a hard time up front. You have to say that our defenders struggled with pace a few times against the front two, but kept them at bay on most occasions.

I was very disappointed with the decision in the first half that we didn’t get a penalty after Fuller got brought down in the box. From a PNE fan’s view, the referee had an awful game. The incident when Hutchinson tugged Cresswell in the box looked a dead-cert. penalty. The Connolly goal looked offside also, but it has been said that his body was in his own half. I’d like to see a replay of that!

North End’s performance was a good one, but it seems to me as if we’re starting where we left off last season. We made too many excuses last season, claiming we should have won matches here and there. At the end of the day, West Ham scored the goals when it mattered, and that’s what this game is all about.
