Irvine's First Point

The game was hardly inspiring with both sides fielding ineffective attackers along with an ineffective referee and one linesman who appeared to think every time the ball was played forward he should flag for offside.

Preston were happy with the point but maybe if they had bene a bit more adventurous could have taken the game by the scruff of the neck certainly in a life less first half.

Chances were at a premium with Preston coming closes in the first forty five with Mckenna hitting a twenty five yard rasper against the post. Watford mainly played on the break and wasted the best two chances with poor finishing in the first period.

Preston's play mainly came from Whaley down the right with Sedgewick on the left misplacing around 75% of his passes. Hawley failed to get into the game and Preston only really threatened from corners.

The match bypassed me for much of the time as I wa slow down in the stand and the ball was for the majority pumped up in the air by both sides. Watford did try to get things moving in the secong half with Shittu hitting the woodwork and Lonergan palming away the rebound.

Watford piled on the pressure late on and Preston nearly fell to another late goal as watford hit the post and the rebound was put in but adjudged to be offside.

Preston slip into the bottom three but know if they can pick up a point at every away game and caryr on their home form then safety will not be far away. Preston now face two games at home against table toppers Stoke and out of form Palace.
