It feels like a tape recorder but Preston need a striker to support David Nugent. Simpson decided a change in formation was needed with Dichio picking up a knock and Stock replacing him to flood the midfield to match the home team.

The formation was ineffective with Nugent frustrated feeding on scraps and Preston relying on crosses from Whaley for any sort of chance.

Norwich had much of the play in the first half with Huckerby causing terror along with Earnshaw. Huckerby went close with Robinson also forcing a save from Nash.

Preston rarely threatened throughout the half and they fell behind to an own goal through St Ledger early in the second half. Norwich controlled the game for a while before Simpson made changes introducing Sedgwick and Agyemang in formation. Preston pushed forward but only long shots from Mckenna threatened the home goal.

With eight minutes to go Earnshaw showed his quality by beating St. Ledger and wrong footing Nash to seal the game.

In a late brawl Graham Alexander was red carded meaning he is suspended for the live television game on Friday at Wolves.

After promising a more adventurous team a one frontman team was totally ineffective. Preston now face a tough trip to Wolves without any experience in the back line who were overwhelmed tonight by the pace of Earnshaw and Huckerby.
