Goals in either half meant that Preston preserved their run of unbeaten home matches which now dates back to the televised defeat against Stoke in September.

The game was not a classic by any means and the biggets threat in the first half posed by both sides was from dead ball situations. Preston broke the deadlock when Jarrett was hacked down outside the area and surprise free kick taker Brian Stock scored his first goal for Preston.

After the break Preston came out the stronger side with Dichio blasting over from six yards. fter some strange refereeing decisions from Uriah Rennie, Preston sealed the victory with a scrambled Ormerod goal.

Preston finish the season in fourth, just like in 2001 under Moyes - the highes finish since 1964. The Whites totalled 80 points and now face an end of season shoot out. they return to Leeds on Friday evening for the first leg of the semi final with the return game at Deepdale on Monday evening. Tickets for the away game go on sale on Monday morning to season ticket holders.
