Preston Enter Fourth Round

On a day of several shocks in the FA Cup 3rd Round Preston managed to turn round their recent poor form to produce a victory which sees them into the next round of the FA Cup.

The first half ended goalless but several opportunities went begging. The best for North End was when Mellor was played in free but fluffed his shot as Preston attacked on the break. Scunthorpe also had chances carving up the north End defence on more than one occassion but failing to take advantage.

The Preston team was down to the bare bones with St Ledger suspended, Mawene partnered Chilvers at the back. Mellor and Hawley started up front and both looked lively if lacking in confidence as well.

Preston took the lead at the start of the second half with a well worked move. hawley found Mckenna in space who found Whaley free in the box who slotted home from close range.

Mellor had a chance to double th ehome sides lead along with Whaley having various long range efforts. Preston managed to keep Scunthorpe at bay to keep a clean sheet and progress to the next round. They will now try and build on this for the league and hopefully one or two signings in the next week may add to the squad.
