Preston went down to an early goal from Mackie after 12 minutes. The shot from 25 yards was defleted by Mawene giving Lonergan no chance in what was an otherwise uneventful first half.

The game got more lively towards the finale with Mawene adjudged to have pushed a Plymouth player in the box. The penalty was taken by Wotton who put Plymouth two up.

Preston came back as Hawley played in Mellor to slot home from close range. Preston who have had many eventful matches going down to the wire this time produced a grand stand finish of their own with Chaplow scoring in the last minute to earn Preston a point.

Preston now have two games left and are virtually assured of Championship football next season with so many sides below them.
