Preston Lack Christmas Punch

Preston struggled to get going in a first half which lacked much creativity from the home side. Scunthorpe played on the counter attack and created several openings but a lack of numbers prevented them from converting.

A misjudgment from St Ledger at the back proved costly as Lonergan was left with a one on one that he could not save and Scunthorpe took the lead before the break. Preston then suddenly sprung into action with Whaley hitting the post before the break.

Preston upped the tempo after the break and created several chances themselves although the Scunthorpe back eleven held out. Gallagher, Mellor, Chilvers and others all had chances to equalise for Preston but it appears a lack of confidence on each occassion meant good situations were wasted with powederpuff shots.

Preston lacked the finish to take anything from the game but as teams in this division seem to be intent on sitting back especially after taking the lead then north End have got to have more about them at home to pick up the required points to survive.
