Preston had their first stalemate at home in the league since the Ipswich game last season and it is their first 0-0 in the league this season. The crowd of 14,775 were not treated to an entertaining game on a cold winter's day.

Preston had the first chance of the game when Graham Alexander had a long-range shot which sailed over the bar.

Norwich came back in the eighth minute when Damien Francis should have done better before shooting over the bar from close range.

Preston centre-back Michael Jackson had a header which went over the bar and then David Healy, the Northern Ireland striker, had his first shot of the afternoon saved by the Norwich goalkeeper Robert Green.

It was Healy again four minutes later with a shot which Green saved and then Rob Edwards had a shot and then a header which went off target.

Healy had another shot saved by Green just before half time.

Preston striker Richard Cresswell fired just wide in the 55th minute and Healy had another shot which was also off target a minute later.

Healy had his fifth chance of the afternoon, a shot which went wide, before Darren Huckerby should have done better before firing a free kick narrowly wide of the right-hand post.

Marlon Broomes, back from injury, had a shot which the keeper saved.

Norwich's man of the match, Peter Crouch, brought a good save from Jonathan Gould in the 76th minute.

The best effort of the afternoon came in the 79th minute when an Alexander free kick from the right-hand side was fired over and Chris Lucketti had a header at the back post which hit the crossbar before being cleared for a corner.

Alexander's late corner found Jackson whose 15-yard header was brilliantly saved by Green who tipped the ball round the post for a corner so the game ended goalless which was a fair result.
