Preston North End won 3-2 against Coventry City at Deepdale in front of a crowd of 11,230.

Preston striker Chris Brown was booked for a foul on Coventry goalkeeper Keiren Westwood after four minutes, before Westwood saved from Eddie Nolan after five minutes.

Sammy Clingan made it 1-0 to Coventry after 19 minutes with a 35 yard right-foot free-kick into the top left corner after a foul on Isaac Osbourne by debutant Neill Collins, on loan from Wolves.

Michael McIndoe's free-kick found Leon Best at the back post and he had an effort saved by Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan after 21 minutes. Westwood cleared a Billy Jones cross a minute later.

Ross Wallace played a one-two with Liam Chilvers but the goalkeeper saved after 23 minutes. Lonergan saved two efforts from Leon Best after 27 and 28 minutes.

Clinton Morrison was booked after 31 minutes for dissent. A Chris Sedgwick cross was saved after 39 minutes. Westwood saved another Sedgwick cross after 45 minutes.

Sedgwick had another cross saved at the start of the second half.

Preston equalised after 50 minutes. Brown scored right-footed from close range into the bottom left corner of the net from Sedgwick's cross.

Neil Mellor made it 2-1 to Preston after 55 minutes. Jones' right-wing cross found Mellor and his shot from the edge of the area found the bottom left corner of the goal.

Westwood saved again from Sedgwick after 57 minutes, before McIndoe and Brown had shots saved after 59 minutes.

Morrison's seven-yard half volley hit the bar from an Osbourne cross after 61 minutes, before Stephen Elliott replaced Mellor after 65 minutes.

Brown made it 3-1 after 68 minutes from three yards low into the middle of the goal from Richard Chaplow's right-wing corner.

Lonergan saved from McIndoe two minutes later and Elliott Ward replaced Stephen Wright and Veliche Shumulikoski replaced Chaplow after 70 minutes.

Lonergan saved a right-foot left-wing inswinging corner by Clingan and a Marcus Hall cross.

Ashley Cain came on for Jack Cork after 77 minutes and Lonergan saved a Best shot and a McIndoe right-wing corner at the near post after 82 minutes.

Freddy Eastwood replaced Martin Cranie after 84 minutes and Lonergan saved from Morrison, Osbourne and McIndoe.

Jon Parkin replaced man of the match Brown after 88 minutes.

Morrison made it 3-2 in the fourth minute of added time from close range low into the middle of the goal.
