Preston reversed last month's 3-0 defeat at the KC Stadium, when Paul Simpson was sacked after the match, with a great second-half performance against Hull City.

It was Preston's first win in seven games and ended a sequence of four defeats in a row.

Callum Davidson created the first chance after 14 minutes, when he blocked Hull City goalkeeper Boaz Myhill's clearance and the ball rebounded just wide of the keeper's right-hand post.

Chris Sedgwick had a good chance after 23 minutes but he hit a left-foot shot wide of the keeper's right-hand post.

Caleb Folan hit the keeper's left-hand post after two minutes later with a ten-yard right-foot shot.

Brett Ormerod limped off with a calf injury after 31 minutes and was replaced by Paul Gallagher, on-loan from Blackburn.

Hull City's Michael Turner was booked for a foul on Simon Whaley after 37 minutes.

Stephen McPhee had a 15-yard right-foot shot saved by Preston keeper Andy Lonergan from a left-wing corner after 55 minutes.

Patrick Agyemang opened the scoring for Preston after an hour when he latched on to Gallagher's throughball, to score right-footed from 15 yards, into the bottom-left for his fourth goal of the season.

Hull City made a double substitution shortly after, bringing on Dean Windass for Folan and Jay-Jay Okocha for McPhee.

David Livermore replaced Fraizer Campbell after 67 minutes.

Simon Whaley made it 2-0 after 68 minutes with his first goal of the season when he hit a right-foot shot, that was deflected by Sam Ricketts, into the roof of the net from Paul McKenna's right-foot right-wing cross.

Preston brought on Lewis Neal for Whaley and Neil Mellor for Agyemang and, straight away, with one minute to go, Mellor crossed from the right and Neal slid the ball home at the far post, to make it 3-0 to Preston.
