Preston Pick Up Precious Point

Both sets of supporters knew this match was going to be tihght with both managers under a spot of pressure after a poor start to the season for both Pail Simpson and Bryan Robson.

Preston looked lively with Matty Hill coming back in for danny Pugh. Hawley and Gallagher continued up front but it was Carter who had a great chance to put Preston ahead which he failed to convert. He then made up by scoring from a free kick to give Preston the lead.

The visitors looked to be heading for a rare victory when a long ball was put through by Sheffield United. Danny Webber got into a tangle with St Ledger who was adjudged maybe harshly to have pulled the forward down. Preston who were awarded a dubious penalty at Ipswich now faced a somewhat harsh decision against them. James Beattie converted the penalty with ten minutes remaining.

The home side tried to go for the win and tempers flared with Paul Simpson sent to the stands for arguing with the fourth official over the penalty decision. Preston played on the break but neither side could find the killer punch.

Both sides remain on the same points, same goal difference and are seperated by one place in the table with Preston one place above the relegation zone now facing two home games in a week.
