Preston were a much changed side with Elliott starting up front alongside Parkin with Whaley on the righ, Davidson at full back and Mawene at the back.

The home side starte dthe better and were in front after Elliott had been tugged back int he srea. The linesman spotted hte clear foul and Davidson converted the penalty despite Richard Wright getting something on the ball.

Ipswich came back in the game when Counago was played through. He appeared to handle in the build up as the ball was bundled past Lonergan.

Nolan had to be brought on for the injured St Ledger and Preston took the lead just before half time. A routine ball should have been dealt with by the Ipswich defence but as Richard Wright failed to claim, big Jon Parkin nipped into head past the keeper.

Preston then furthered their lead after the break when Wright failed to claim a Wallace cross which allowed Elliott to finish.

Ipswich weren't out of the game yet as the referee gave a soft free kick which ex-North Ender Tommy Miller curled past Lonergan. The visitors then hit the post but failed to get an equaliser as Preston move up the table.
