The First Lancashire Derby Ahead

Newly promoted Morecambe were drawn out of the hat to face Preston in the League Cup First Round and the two sides will clash at Deepdale this Tuesday night.

The two clubs have never really crossed paths before due mainly to the fact that this is Morecambe's first season in the league. They will make the short journey down the M6 to do battle in the First Round of the League Cup.

Both sides started their respective League campaigns on Saturday with a goalless draw - Morecambe's home game at Christie Park delayed by 15 minutes to allow a bumper first League crowd over over 3,500 into the ground.

Simspon will be looking for a positive result in the Cup after a First Round exit last year to lower league opposition in the form of Port Vale. After having plenty of pressure on Saturday fans will be asking if Preston have the capability to score the necessary goals to fire them into the next round.

Mellor is an injury doubt after getting kicked in the back - a recurrence of an injury picked up in pre-season against Blackburn as he once again did not finish 90 minutes on Saturday. He should be fit to start though alongside Ormerod.

Simpson may well stick with the same eleven that started the league campaign allowing Carter to form a midfield partnership with Nicholls. Barring any injuries in training Simpson has a full squad except for the long term absentee Paul Mckenna and Matt Hill.

Preston traditionally have never faired well in this competition reaching the 4th Round being as far as they have got but it is an opportunity for the club to progress and gain some early season confidence should they get past a tough opening round game against local side Morecambe.
