Preston were aiming to add experience to their squad which was missing last season and may have played a part in their mid-table finish. Bauer is a centre back who has been with Charlton for the past four seasons.
North End finished the season with Ben Davies and Jordan Storey as the main centre back pairing. Both excelled although equally mistakes were made partly due to a lack of experience.
Tom Clarke was injured for large parts of the season whilst Paul Huntington seemed out of favour and it may well be that Bauer is given an opportunity to become a regular. It seems that in the long run Paul Huntington will be leaving the club due to the number of centre backs now at the disposal of Alex Neil.
