The young American was on trial at Deepdale back in January when Simpson wanted to sign him up but couldn't due to work permit problems. The same situation has arisen but after agreeing terms North End have gone to the Home Office pleading that Dalby is an exceptional young talent and therefore should be allowed a permit.

Dalby is 21 and an exciting young player who capatained the USA under 20 side in the FIFA World Cup in 2005. He will add competition to the midfield which was missing last season. Simpson appears to have completed most of his summer shopping with pre-season starting today. David Nugent is shortly set to sign for Portsmouth and it appears one more signing - a striker, could be made before the start of the season.
