Sodje Says Goodbye

Let's put things into perspective. Westley had room for only so many strikers when he was budgeting for his squad int he summer. The main target was Beavon with King and Trundle in support.

Due to the lack of options up front during pre-seaosn (Beavon only signed on deadline day) Sodje was given a trial where he greatly impressed. Trundle picked up a long term injury and so Sodje was given an opportunity to shine on a month by month basis knowing that he could not play for another club until January if he rejected the monthly contract.

He started well and looked a real handful at League One level scoring goals. We all know his knees are not the best but after a minor injury it appears that Westley only wanted to use Sodje as a bit part player despite the striker looking the most impressive out of all the frontmen.

Sodje continued on a month by month basis but it was always the case that when Trundle returned he may well be on his way. Instead, he has bitten the bullet and decided not to sign a new deal to keep him at Preston until January.

Effectively the striker will take a holiday over the festive season and more than likely end up signing a deal with some club in January who will give him more of a chance to play than Preston did. It seems such a waste when he appeared to have a lot more to offer.
